Hi, I'm James Dewane! An electrician just like you, having spent nearly 30 years in the industry - with plenty of ups and downs along the way.
Back in 2007, I had a thriving company, nine staff, three vans, a car and a shop front – only to find myself on the brink of personal bankruptcy because two developers I was working with went out of business owing me a lot of money.
Although I "appeared" to have a great turnover the business was not profitable, so I could not recover from their failure.
I had no choice but to start again.
During my come back, I discovered that the Domestic sector was a virtually untapped market, because most people in the trades believed it difficult to get work.
I knew I had to put a stake in the ground and build a local business based on the domestic market.
I threw myself into learning everything I could about local marketing and spent a small fortune on workshops, seminars, magazines, mastermind groups, books, online training; I even studied hypnosis and Neuro-Linguistic Programming.
Armed with a Degree in Business Management & Marketing from the Open University, I applied everything I knew and created another successful but small company, and subsequently became the ‘go-to’ electrician in a small local area.
I have now retired from the tools and spend my time teaching marketing and mentoring fellow tradespeople.
It still surprises me that at no point during the trade training for any of the trade do you learn about getting and keeping customers and yet without them you can’t have a business.
This is why I created the S.P.A.R.K.S Blueprint and 'My Electrician's Toolbox' - to give electricians a straightforward and proven way to effectively market themselves and earn good well paying, local work.
